Transferring a domain to TekLan means we become your registrar. You manage everything - domain renewals, DNS, WHOIS - from your TekLan client area alongside your hosting.
Domain registered with us and hosted with us? DNS is managed automatically. Once the transfer is complete, there is nothing extra to configure if your hosting is already at TekLan.
Most registrars apply a transfer lock to prevent unauthorised moves. Log in to your current registrar's control panel and disable the registrar lock (sometimes called Transfer Lock or Domain Lock). The exact label varies by registrar.
The auth code (also called an EPP code or transfer secret) proves you are the authorised owner. Request it from your current registrar - it is usually available instantly in the control panel or sent by email.
Note: .uk, .co.uk, and .org.uk domains use a different process through Nominet's IPS tag system - see below.
An approval email is sent to the registrant email address on the domain. Click the approval link in that email. Some registrars also send a notification asking you to confirm the release - approve it there too if prompted.
Most transfers complete within 5-7 days, though .uk transfers are typically much faster.
UK domains managed by Nominet use an IPS tag system rather than auth codes. To transfer to TekLan:
The transfer is usually processed within a few hours once the IPS tag change is made.
DNS records are not changed by the transfer itself - the domain continues to use whatever nameservers are set at the time of transfer. If your site was working before the transfer, it will continue to work during and after it. Once the transfer is complete, you can manage DNS from the TekLan client area.
